Mariz Abdou, a PhD candidate in economics at the Université Clermont Auvergne-CERDI, was a visiting researcher at the Università degli Studi Roma Tre for three months. She worked with Silvia Nenci, an international trade expert, towards new research on global value chains (GVCs) in Egypt.

In this new paper, she analyses the impact of bilateral real exchange rate (RER) depreciation on Egypt’s integration into GVCs, as well as the potential for sectoral upgrading along the value chain. For that, she uses input-output tables at the sectoral level. In short, she evaluates the role of monetary policy in the country's economic integration.

Mariz is writing a doctoral thesis on the relationship between exchange rate dynamics, trade performance and quality of economic institutions in developing economies. Patrick Plane (CERDI, CNRS) and Chahir Zaki (Université Orléans, LEO) supervise her research.

The I-Site Université Clermont Auvergne program supported her visiting stay.
