Nibontenin is writing a Ph.D. thesis on fiscal policy, financial development, and macroeconomic vulnerability in small island developing states. He his working under the supervision of Michaël Goujon (Cerdi, UCA-CNRS) and Emmanuel Aka Brou (Université Félix Houphouët-Boigny).
