The survey on how small Egyptian farmers adjust to climate change has started

Jules Gazeaud (CERDI, CNRS) is in Egypt for three months to carry out his research project on how the farming sector adapts to a warming climate.

Jules has initiated this research on the impact of climate change on farm communities in Upper Egypt. Agricultural production is threatened by higher temperatures and extreme drought. This research aims to conduct a field study on how farmers are affected by warming temperatures and informed on how to adjust their crops. This project also includes an analysis of the impacts on the labour market.

Last year, Jules Gazeaud and Nada Rostom (Antwerp University) conducted an exploratory study. They are back in the field to implement follow-up studies on the interventions already completed this farming season and to prepare for next season's interventions in collaboration with local partners.
