The CERDI is pleased to announce that Capucine Chapel joins our team.

Capucine graduated from the Development Economics Magister degree at the School of Economics in 2020. She published an article in World Development on the impact of official development assistance for renewable energy on electrification in Sub-Saharan Africa. In December 2023, after conducting research at the Department of Economics at the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM), she defended her PhD on the recreational amenities of green spaces at the CESAER, a joint research unit that brings together the Institut Agro of Dijon (France) and the INRAE (France's National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food and Environment).

She then completed a postdoctoral fellowship at ERUDITE - Université Paris-Est Créteil, focusing on the impact of social housing on real estate prices as part of the "Affordable Land and Housing" research-action project, supported by organizations such as the Union Sociale pour l'Habitat, IDHEAL, and PUCA.

Her research focuses on sustainable development pathways, aiming to understand the mechanisms, challenges, and opportunities for guiding societies towards a more sustainable future. Her work spans several fields, including development economics, environmental economics, and urban and regional economics. She uses an empirical approach, relying on applied microeconomics and spatial analysis tools.

At the CERDI, Capucine will work as part of the International Research Center "Natural Disasters and Sustainable Development" (I-Site CAP 20-25 project of Clermont Auvergne University). She will study the indirect impacts of volcanoes and their eruptions to understand the proximity of populations to these hazards.
