Yannick Malalanirina joined the Gender and Development Unit for a few months
Our PhD candidate, Yannick Malalanirina, is working as a research intern at the OECD Development Center. She joined the Inclusive Development Partnerships Division, where she works under the supervision and guidance of Hyeshin Park, the Head of Gender and Development Unit. She is conducting econometric and quantitative data analyses to contribute to research on masculinities and to the preparations for the next edition of the Social Institutions and Gender Index (SIGI).
Yannick is a PhD candidate in economics. She explores the impacts of gender equality implementation in the Global South in her PhD dissertation. She completed her undergraduate studies at the Université Catholique de Madagascar before coming to France to join the Ecole d'Economie and the Université Clermont Auvergne, where she obtained her Master's in development economics. Her PhD research is supported by the Clermont International Development Hub (PCDI).
The CERDI recruited her to work under the supervision of Francesca Marchetta (CERDI, UCA) and Hugues Champeaux (GATE, Université de Saint-Étienne) on gender issues, including in the context of natural or weather shocks. She is exploring sensitive topics like intimate partner violence, but also women's implication in the workforce in developing countries. She has solid fieldwork experience. She has travelled to Madagascar several times to conduct surveys since she began her PhD. She is also involved in an impact study on sport education in secondary schools and gender-based violence.
She has developed microeconomics research skills, combining lab and fieldwork, and volunteers with NGO Ank'Izy to promote children's education.
This work experience at the OECD will help grow her skills within a research department at the forefront of gender research.
