Launching seminar of the ECOTERM project in Cambodia
on the June 27, 2024
Martine Audibert and Sébastien Marchand were in Siem Reap, Cambodia, from June 15 to 25, 2024, to discuss the advancement of their research contribution to the ECOTERM project.
The aims of this interdisciplinary project are to:
- Identify and measure the ecological services provided by termite mounds.
- Assess the use and ecological benefits of termite mounds by farmers.
- Contribute to sustainable farming practices.
The ECOTERM project brings together anthropologists, ecologists, economists, geoscientists, and pharmacologists from a consortium of Cambodian and French research institutions (iEES, CERDI, CEREGE, Centre Norbert Elias, ITC, Lisode, RUA). During the seminar, the team discussed the objectives and perspectives, as well as the first results of the study.
The participants also visited the Phnom Kulen site, where Agrisud International and ADF Kulen (Archaeology and Development Foundation) are promoting sustainable and more productive farming practices. This was an excellent opportunity to meet with the farmers and discuss the constraints and benefits associated with the presence of termite mounds.
