The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) do not form a list of independent objectives. Progress in one area can support other advances, but it can also create tensions with other priorities. The article proposes a method to make these connections visible on a global scale, in order to help decision-makers better anticipate development dilemmas. Applied to data from the Sustainable Development Report 2024, the analysis brings out two large blocks of indicators and a reduced set of priorities. The central message is simple: sustainable development policies are more effective when they are designed in a multisectoral manner, rather than by treating each SDG separately.
